VoIP is an improved upon method of the standard phone call; VoIP Pbx utilizes the same process as the internet in order to place a call, this process is known as packet switching. Packet switching involves the development of a connection (as with a normal phone call) however these connections are possible via a number of different paths and only stay open long enough for data to be sent and received. This makes VoIP phone calls much more efficient and cost effective.
VoIP Pbx technology bypasses the need for a standard telephone service provider; however a VoIP
Pbx provider will be required. As prices and services vary between suppliers, it is recommended that the user compares providers before selecting one.
One method of successfully accessing VoIP phone calls is with a VoIP phone (IP phone). These phones look exactly the same as a normal telephone, however they contain an Ethernet connector in place of the normal telephone connector that is found on a standard home telephone.
IP phones are able to be connected directly to a router and are supplied ready to go, with all the software and hardware necessary to access VoIP services.
An EP phone has the benefit of not requiring a personal computer in order to function; it is capable of working independently.
VoIP phones are also capable of integrating with other internet services, thus the user is able to exchange data or hold a video conversation at the same time as holding a conversation over VoIP
Pbx.
Other methods of accessing VoIP services include computer to computer calls (calls can be made from one computer to another) or analogue telephone adaptors (normal telephones can be plugged in to an adaptor to enable them to be VoIP
Pbx capable.
